Welcome to Team Magic's Whistlestop Duathlon!

You may or may not know it... but without the Whistlestop, there would be no Powerman Alabama!  Powerman Alabama grew from the original Whistlestop Duathlon in Irondale, Alabama.  The event was named the Whistlestop based on Irondale, Alabama being the true home of the "Whistlestop Cafe" from the novel and film "Fried Green Tomatoes."  We added the Powerman Alabama race the next year, but kept the Whistlestop as a shorter distance option.

The Whistlestop race runs along with the Powerman race, separated only by wave starts.

We are happy to announce we have moved "back to our roots" by taking the Powerman and Whistlestop races back to the original race site in the City of Irondale.

Child Care:  if you are holding off racing because you need someone to watch the kid, just email us at races@team-magic.com if you need help.

Therese Bynum, Faye Yates, the Birmingham and Nashville Gang

WHERE IT HAPPENS

EVENT TIMING

All Team Magic events are timed with the latest timing technology, AMB-Identification & Timing.  Each athlete is given a transponder to put on their ankle.  As the athlete crosses over a detection point, the loop activates the transponder which relays its unique identification number. That unique ID is passed on to the Activ Decoder which gives the passing a precise time stamp. The passing data is then handled by the timing software in a connected laptop or computer.   You will need to pick up the transponder and ankle band on race morning at the finish line.  Please go to the white tent with blue panels at the finish area.  PLEASE NOTE, you must present your race BIB number to receive your timing chip.  This is to be sure we get your timing correct, so please work with us on this, thank you!  The transponder is programmed to coincide with your individual race number.  The detection points will be set up to give you your individual event split times from the run to bike to final run.  These transponders are $85 each?so if you forget to turn yours in at the end of the race or if you do not finish, please mail to us or you will be billed for $85!   You will also be body marked with your race number near the transition area.

USA Triathlon Additional Information

The Bike:  The course is partially out-and-back, with one loop for the Whistlestop race and two loops for the Powerman distance in the middle of the course.  Plan on some hills!  Much of the course includes the original Whistlestop course and the recent Whistlestop Course.

Food & Fluid Available On Course
