Team Magic presents the 10th Annual

Powerman Alabama Duathlon!!

Welcome to Team Magic's

Powerman Alabama and Whistlestop Duathlons!

For those of you that have raced with us before, welcome back.  For those racing with us for the first time...WELCOME!  Our goal is to provide an outstanding racing experience for all racers...from the first, through the middle, to the last.  We are celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2005... and taking the race site back to the roots!  The venue is moving back home to the City of Irondale.  While we have enjoyed our years at the Birmingham Race Course, we are really excited about moving back "home."  The City of Irondale

The Powerman race is once again a qualifier for the Long Distance World Championship IN ADDITION to the Short Distance World Championship

Please use the links on the left menu bar for more information on the Whistlestop Duathlon and for quick references for Powerman Alabama race details.

On behalf of the entire Team Magic crew....have a fantastic race!

Therese Bynum, Faye Yates, the Birmingham and Nashville Gang

Powerman Alabama is brought to you in part by:

The Run:  the first and second runs will both be 8k, versus a 10k first run and 5k second run.  The two "out-and-back dog legs" of 2002 and prior years have been removed to keep participants on the perimeter of the host facility property versus running near abandoned buildings.  These "dog legs" were also a sore spot with many participants...so, they are history.

The Bike:  the course is one loop for the Whistlestop race and two loops for the Powerman distance.  The Powerman race no longer "loops back through the parking lot" of the host facility, but will continue on John Rogers Drive to complete the second loop.  This course modification changes the Powerman distance from 60k to 55k and the Whistlestop distance from 30k to 28k.

WAVE STARTS

Wave starts will be published asap!  Thanks for your patience.

COURSE NOTE

Running the run course portion that is on the Birmingham Race Course Campus is strictly prohibited on days when the dogs are racing.  The only day you can be on that portion of the course is race day.  Please do not jeopardize this race by sneaking into this area!  THANKS!

CATEGORIES ADDED TO POWERMAN!!

As in 2003, Relay Teams, Clydesdale, and Athena will have an award category in the Powerman distance.  We will continue to offer these categories, as well as a Beginner category, in the Whistlestop race.

Important News about USA Triathlon National Ranking

You must compete in your age group if you want to receive national ranking with our governing body, USA Triathlon.  The USAT rule that applies is 3.2a, which says, "all age group athletes must participate and compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete's actual age on the date of the event."  If an athlete chooses to compete at a sanctioned event in any special race-specific category grouping which offers a start group or other course modification other than those designated by USAT as Age Groups, then that athlete forfeits the opportunity to have that race count towards their age group ranking.  This basically applies to those athletes competing in the Clydesdale, Athena, and Beginner categories.  We will therefore start these categories within their respective age groups so all racers will not miss being ranked.

EVENT TIMING

This event will be timed using the Champion Chip Timing System.  You will receive a small chip and ankle band with your race packet at registration.  This chip is programmed to coincide with your individual race number.  During the event, you will cross mats that will record your time as you transition from run-to-bike-to-run and then at the finish line.  You MUST wear your chip throughout the entire event in order to receive your splits and finish time, and to compete for an award.  Please click HERE for further information.

WHERE IT HAPPENS
The Birmingham Race Course is located on John Rogers Drive, between Hwy 11 and Hwy 78 less than 10 miles east of downtown Birmingham and the Birmingham International Airport.  The Race Course hosts Greyhound racing Monday through Saturday, but is closed on Sunday.  If you wish to enter the facility to check out the races, you must be 18 years of age and have a picture i.d.  All race activities will take place outside of the facility around the outdoor pavilion, which is open to all ages for race weekend.

NOTICE ABOUT DOGS

Please do not bring your dogs to the race site on Saturday for registration.  The greyhound dogs are racing on Saturday and other dogs are strictly prohibited on the campus.
