COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
POWERMAN ALABAMA & Elite duathlon (10K/60K/10K)
Back to the Powerman tradition, expect some great hills for both the bike and run courses - nothing too crazy, just enough to earn the name... the courses are beautiful on the peaceful roads of Oak Mountain State Park. The bike course will be three 20k loops and the run course will be a run through the forest out and back with the first half making you appreciate the down hill back home.

team magic signature duathlon (5K/40K/5K)
Half of the Powerman course on the run and two 20k loops on the bike.

Double oak duathlon (2.5K/20K/2.5K)
Half of the Signature Duathlon on the run and one 20k loop on the bike.

trail run (8k) & XTERRA Off-Road duathlon (8k/17mi/2k)
On awesome trails used for XTERRA Triathlon and BUMP Championship Mountain Bike Courses.

Powerkids duathlon
Spectator friendly and mostly flat - distances vary by age:

Age 3-4: 50 ft. run; 500 ft. bike; 50 ft. run
Age 5-6: 1/8 mile run; 1/2 mile bike; 1/8 mile run
Age 7-8: 1/4 mile run; .85 mile bike; 1/4 mile run
Age 9-10: 1/2 mile run; .85 mile x 2 laps bike; 1/2 mile run
Age 11-12: 1/2 mile run; .85 mile x 3 laps bike; 1/2 mile run

Food & Fluid Available On Course
There will be Powerade and water on the run course. Hammer Nutrition products will be provided in your race bag and Hammer Gel will be available on the run course. PLEASE note there will NOT be Powerade at the bike bottle exchange, based on past consumption. Since so many people prefer to have their own fluid replacement, we will have WATER only available on the bike course, but WILL have Powerade on the run course.

And as always, the Birmingham Rugby Club will be passing out water at the Powerman bottle drop!! Be sure to yell a big thank you to these guys!

TRANSITION AREA RULES

Bike must be in transition 30 minutes prior to race start each day. Please respect other participants that are racing before your wave start begins, or may still be racing when you are finished. Keep on alert for racers as you move in and out of transition before, during and after your race is over.

You will rack your bike according to your race number. Pre-registered race numbers are assigned based on age group within your race. Late registrants will receive last numbers and be racked by their race number only, not within age group.

CATEGORIES, AWARDS, & PRIZES
USAT AGE UP RULE
All USAT races will use the "AGE UP RULE" for award distribution and ranking. It is important that you begin in the proper wave start with respect to this rule. The age up rule means you are racing based on your age as of 12/31/10. Our computer timing program will automatically calculate your age based on your birth date and the age up rule criteria.

CATEGORY TYPEs for adult duathlon events

  • Elite - Card carrying pros or elites that have had resume approved
  • Individual (Age Group) - Open for all age group men and women
  • Paratriathlete - Physically Challenged Division - MORE INFO
  • Beginners - Participated in no more than 3 triathlons
  • Clydesdale - 200+ pound men
  • Athena - 150+ pound women
  • Masters - 40+ men and women
  • Relay - male, female, mixed, family

Your category CANNOT change once the race starts. If a category is not indicated when you register, you will be entered as an individual. If you choose Beginner, you will fall back in your age group if you do not win an award in your chosen category.

"Should I be a beginner?"

If you do not place in the top three beginners position you will fall back into the open age groups for awards. So we recommend for your first 3 races, choose "Beginner," then move on to any other category...

Important Note About Our Event Awards

Team Magic hopes you will join us after each race for the awards ceremony - this is the grand finale of each event and is held very soon after the final race finisher.

Our awards are most often product awards and a recognition award of your placement. We do not ship awards or make them available for pick up after the awards ceremony is completed. Please make arrangements for someone to pick up your award at the event or plan on staying for the awards ceremony. Award categories are available on each race web page.

Preliminary results will be posted as soon as possible at the race site - the location will be announced by our race announcer. If you see that you will be receiving an award but cannot stay for the ceremony, please designate a fellow racer, friend, or volunteer to claim your award. All awards not claimed at the race site will be distributed to race sponsors, city officials, race supporters and at future race prize drawings.

Complete race results will be posted on our web site as soon as possible after each event, usually within 24 hours.
