OLD HICKORY LAKE TRIATHLON
June 23, 2012
400 yd swim / 1 mi run / 12 mi bike / 2 mi run
Sumner County, TN - north of downtown Nashville
hosted by the Sumner County YMCA
Welcome to the Old Hickory Lake Triathlon!
We are so excited to be bringing you our 11th year of this popular event. Team Magic started our Tennessee triathlon adventure with this event at just over 180 racers and now we sell out at our event capacity of 448 racers. So, don't wait, plan to join us for this unique triathlon, with the run course split into two segments.
The host community - the cities of Hendersonville and Gallatin in beautiful lakeside Sumner County and the local triathlon club (HEAT) - make this a wonderful event for all racers. The support is awesome, so expect plenty of course protection by local police and the many volunteer groups.
The venue for this event will take place for the second year at the Sumner County YMCA. The facility is literally adjacent to the previous venue, but we will have some course changes associated with this move.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THIS UNIQUE TRIATHLON
You will swim in a very calm inlet off of Old Hickory Lake, run 1 miles from the lake to the transition area, complete your 12 mile bike ride, then run another 2 miles to the finish.
The race transition is actually only 0.6 miles from the swim area. The race finish will be adjacent to the race transition area, which is located new in 2011 at the Sumner County YMCA.
To provide what we thought was the best transition and finish area, it required us to have the transition more than a short jog from your swim exit. So, you get to experience a non-typical triathlon! Many triathlons have rather long runs from the swim exit to the transition, but we felt 0.6 miles was too much. You will be walking / jogging the 0.6 miles to the swim start from the main transition area for the race start, so plan accordingly.
RACE LIMIT = 448 (capacity is limited by swim area to 1st run transition space)
