MAIN STAGING AREA - Transition Flow and Finish Line: MAP HERE

Team Magic has been informed of some great news for the city of Nashville - adding to the newly developed Cumberland Park under the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge, the east bank is getting further developed along the river adjacent to LP Field - home of the Tennessee Titans. While this is awesome news for the city and all of those that enjoy downtown, this does require a move for the 2014 Music City Triathlon... just a hop across the river to the downtown business and entertainment district! 

The race transition area is organized based on your assigned race number. The bike racks are marked by ranges of "7" numbers, beginning with 1 through 7 and so on. Bikes do not have to be racked in numerical order ON the rack, but must be placed on the rack designated for your race number range.  Sorry folks, for safety reasons, no balloons or items may be attached to racks to help locate your spot.  Feel free to bring your sidewalk chalk.  


THE SWIM:

The swim will be in the Cumberland River, starting and finishing from the west bank dock - not a point to point swim, but a rectangular type course.

Our Charity Partner, the Nashville Dolphins, will be holding two open water swims on Saturday. Come check out the river before the race and swim the same course you will be racing in Sunday's Triathlon!

Estimated Water Temperature & USA Triathlon Wetsuit Rules:

The average water temperature in this area of the Cumberland River on this day is 81 °F. There will be updates the week of the race on current water temperature. Wetsuits may be worn and considered legal by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 °F. When the water temperature is greater than 78 °F, but less than 84°F, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided however that participants who wear a wet suit within this temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Age group participants shall not wear wet suits in water temperatures equal to or greater than 84 °F.

Swim Start Information:

This will be a time trial start swim by assigned race numbers. This start is the most practical and safest start for the area we have to use at the Metro Parks West Bank Dock. 

Race numbers are assigned by estimated swim time, with the fastest swim time being number 1. A racer will enter the water approximately every 3 seconds, with relay teams starting before individuals. The sprint race starts at 7:30 AM. The first intermediate distance swimmer will enter the water approximately 5 minutes after the final sprint racer starts, with relay teams starting before individuals. 

There will be no moving up in swim order on race day. Pre-register by the Wednesday night before the race to get a spot in the swim order!!!! All registrants after that time will have the UPPER numbers and be starting at the rear, sorry, no exceptions.

Course buoys will be identified to all racers, and kayak support on the water will also assist racers to stay on course. 

Swim Caps:
Swim caps will be provided at packet pick up and must be worn for safety / visibility. Sprint and Intermediate racers will have DIFFERENT color caps. You will be given at swim cap at registration with your participant # on it. Please have your # visible on the front left side of your head as entering water.

THE BIKE:

Thanks to TDOT - the long bike course will be a two-loop 22k course totaling 43k on Ellington Parkway. Ellington Parkway will be completely closed to traffic during the event. Sprint racers will do one loop. 

The bike course will start and finish on 2nd Ave & Broadway. The course follows Union Street across Woodland Street Bridge, then 1st Ave N to Spring Street onto Ellington Parkway, then to Briarville Road and return the same route. Long course turns around on Union to complete 2nd lap. Short course proceeds back to transition down 2nd Ave to Broadway.

THE RUN:

Since we are going to be hanging out downtown before and after the race, we have decided to flatten things out a bit and head back across the river around LP Field coming back across the river on the Korean Veterans Bridge. Intermediate racers will do the same course twice. 

The run course exits transition South 2nd Ave S, left on sidewalk under Shelby Bridge, Right on 1st Ave S, Left on Southeast Lane Korean Vets Blvd, Right on S 2nd Street, Right on S 1st Street, Left on Victory Ave, Right on Titans Way, Right on Russell Street, RIght on S 2nd Street, Right on Northwest Lane of Korean Vets Blvd, then finish in bus drive adjacent to 1st Ave S before Broadway. Second loop for long course turns around on 1st Ave Adjacent to finish line to complete 2nd loop. 

There will be iced rags at the water station at mile 2!

Course Support: 
Water and energy drinks will be offered at the run start, and approximately every mile during the run. There will also be ice and iced towels available on the run course and at the race finish line.
