A BIG THANK YOU to the City of Birmingham, the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. We have you registered for either the 16th Street Baptist Church 5k or the Trak Shak Magic City 8k. <a href="http://www.team-magic.com/timing_info.pdf">CLICK HERE FOR EVENT TIMING INFORMATION</a> <img src="http://team-magic.com/images/shoe_with_tag.jpg" alt="shoetag" width="175" height="233" class="pic-l" /> All Team Magic events are timed using IPICO chip or shoe tag timing. These chips/tags are the property of Team Magic Inc. You will receive a racing chip/tag on race morning. You must show your bib number to receive the chip/tag to insure your race results are accurate. If you lose or do not return the chip/tag - you will be charged a $15 replacement fee. An additional $1 a day fee is added for any chip not returned after 7 days. Volunteers will be at the finish line to collect all chips. Helpful tips: 1. Secure the timing chip / shoe tag with zip tie provided at chip pick up. 2. No Timing Chip = No Time 3. Double check and make sure the timing chip is securely fastened and will stay on during your run. PLEASE JOIN TEAM MAGIC IN OUR RECYCLING EFFORT THIS WEEKEND 1. Aluminum cans 2. Plastic 3. Water station cups 4. Gel Packets 5. Cardboard Look for our "blue top" recycling containers. PLEASE look before you toss to help us with sorting and PLEASE do not pitch garbage/food in the recycling containers. The 5k course is the same as the 5k course for the Magic City Duathlon on Saturday. Wrist Bands: We will be placing a wrist band on each racer when you pick up your race packet. This wrist band is your "full access" pass to all areas of race weekend that are limited to racers, race staff, and race officials. Please keep this band on for identification purposes. It is intended to be for your safety and to control the race atmosphere. Your wrist band is your one-time access to the post race food area - volunteers will take your band at that time. 3. Race Location: All event activities will be held in and around Kelly Ingram Park in DowntownBirmingham and at the <a href="http://www.bcri.org/index.html">Birmingham Civil Rights Institute</a>. Late registration and packet pick up for all events will take place in "the Commons Room." Via I-65 North From I-65, take I-20/59 Northeast towards Atlanta. Exit at the 17th Street Exit (it is the first exit off I-20/59). Bear right and proceed to the light. From that light go two blocks to 6th Avenue North. Turn right on to 6th Avenue North. The Institute is one block up on your left. Via I-65 South From I-65, take I-20/59 Northeast towards Atlanta. Exit at the 17th Street Exit (it is the first exit off I-20/59). Bear right and proceed to the light. From that light go two blocks to 6th Avenue North. Turn right on to 6th Avenue North. The Institute is one block up on your left. Via I-20/59 North (from Tuscaloosa) From I-20/59, heading towards Gadsden/Atlanta take the 17th Street Exit. Bear right and proceed to the light. From that light go two blocks to 6th Avenue North. Turn right on to 6th Avenue North. The Institute is one block up on your left. Via I-20 West From I-20 West merges into I-59 South. Then take the 22nd Street Exit. At exit take left and proceed up three blocks to 6th Avenue North. Take a right on 6th Avenue North and go down to 16th Street. The Institute will be on your left. 4. PARKING FOR THE RACE 1. There is limited parking in a lot behind the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute on 15th Street. 2. There is plenty of parking available as "street parking" in the area surrounding the race site - there is no meter charge after 5 pm on Friday or during the weekend. 3. DO NOT park in any church parking lots as they will have you towed. 4. Be sure to observe signs at downtown businesses that say NO PARKING OR YOU WILL BE TOWED. 5. Be sure not to park at any "Covered Meters" - this indicates that this road is part of the race course. Directions for visitors and spectators arriving during race hours: -From I-65 North/Southbound- Take 20/59 Eastbound to 17th Street Exit. Turn Right onto 7th Avenue North, Left onto 15th Street and park where available. -From 20/59 Westbound- Take 22nd Street Exit. Turn Right onto 8th Avenue , Left onto 17th Street, Right onto 7th Avenue North, Left onto 15th Street and park where available. -From 31/280 Northbound- Take 1st Avenue North Exit. Turn Left onto 1st Avenue North. Turn Right onto 21st. Watch for Bicycles at 6th Ave North - EXPECT DELAYS.
