Don't miss out on the Team Magic's Multisport Season Kick-Off! Powerman weekend is coming up on March 26-27.

It's not called 'easy,' it's called Powerman!
Back at Oak Mountain State Park for the 2nd year, the 2011 race boasts some challenging courses enclosed by beautiful Alabama deciduous forest. A full weekend of events awaits you at Oak Mountain; Powerkids Duathlon and Event Expo on Saturday followed up on Sunday with Powerman Alabama(10k/60k/10k) and the more modest Double Oak Du(2.5k/20k/2.5k).

Team Magic is excited to announce that Powerman Alabama will be the 2011 USAT Long Course Duathlon National Championship and serves as the 2011 USAT Duathlon Southeast Regional Championship.

Something for everyone! Start the weekend by bringing your kids to the Powerkids Duathlon. What? No Kids? Tell your friends and family that do have kids about this fun, safe event. Ages 3 through 12 are welcome and race distances are appropriate for age. All finishers receive a participation award and the fastest boy and girl in each age group wins a prize.

ACME MULTISPORTS MUSIC CITY TRIATHLON

July 25th - Nashville, TN - For the 2nd year, this 32 year old triathlon will be held in downtown Nashville, adjacent to LP Field, home of the NFL Tennessee Titans. Two race distances are offered. Racers will swim in the Cumberland River, bike traffic free on a completely closed Ellington Parkway, and run through the heart of downtown Nashville's business and entertainment district.

New for 2010, the Music City Intermediate Distance Triathlon will qualify the top male and female state of Tennessee resident for the 2010 Best of the USA Amateur Competition.

Mondays 5-19 at 6pm
Meet at Titans Stadium on the side closest to the river

Attend this FREE Run Training Group led by Stephen Taylor, USA Triathlon Certified Coach. Each session will begin with of an introduction and orientation to the 5K course. You will also receive running tips to help you better your triathlon run splits.

The 5K course may be completed one or more times at each practice depending on your desired total distance (3-6+ miles.)

This session is open to all levels of runner, walk/run, or walker. You do not have to be signed up for the Music City Triathlon to participate.

Come join us for our 8th year in the great community of McMinnville. New this year - we have shortened the distances and changed the date due to the cancelation of our GJCC Memorial Day Triathlon that has been held in Nashville for the past five years. The wildly successful sellout GJCC Triathlon has unfortunately been canceled by our host facility due to staff changes. We loved working with them and will miss them of course. For those of you that have never been to McMinnville, it is only about 75 miles southeast of Nashville and the race is starting at 8:30 am to give morning arrivals a little more time!

Team Magic wants to continue offering an early season beginner friendly option so the nice folks at McMinnville have agreed to make the date/distance adjustment.

The new race distances will be just like the GJCC for the swim at 200 meters and the run at 2 miles. The bike course will be slightly longer at 10.5 miles but an easier course than GJCC.

The outdoor pool is set up with 50 meter lanes for the race and the other side of the pool is GREAT for post-race fun for the kids, or triathletes that like to pretend they are kids! You will be hard pressed to find a more welcoming crowd than the city of McMinnville police, emergency, and recreation center personnel and the local volunteers.

Online registration is now open - those pre-registered for GJCC should have received a direct communication from Team Magic, but can also contact races@team-magic.com for complete details and options.

NOW IN DOWNTOWN NASHVILLE
31 Years of Tradition in a New Location

Intermediate Distance 1.5k swim / 40k bike / 10k run
New short course 400m swim / 20k bike / 5k run

The Music City Triathlon is making a big move to downtown Nashville and moving to mid-summer for its' 31st year. Team Magic took over the event in 2006 at a new location "down the street" from the previous. We truly enjoyed our three years at Nashville Shores and working with their fabulous staff.

As for the basics - we are staging the event on the east side of the Cumberland River in the area around LP Field, home of the NFL Tennessee Titans. The swim will be in the Cumberland River, starting and finishing from the east side - not a point to point swim, but a rectangular type course. Thanks to TDOT - the bike course will be a two-loop 20k course totaling 40k on Ellington Parkway for the intermediate distance and one-loop for the short distance. Ellington Parkway will be completely closed to traffic during the event. The run course will be a two-loop 5k course totaling 10k of running for the intermediate distance and one-loop for the short distance on a nice mix of the east side and the west side of the river in the downtown business district.

Music City Triathlon and Cedars of Lebanon Triathlon - dates announced! The Music City Triathlon is moving to downtown Nashville on July 26th and Cedars of Lebanon Triathlon will now be on September 12th.

Gearing Up for the Triathlon Season: A Primer for the Novice Triathlete. It is almost time for the prolific multisport season to begin. Do you want to get the most racing possible this summer? Coach Stephen Taylor outlines how to plan for a season of racing here.

All That Glitters is Not Iron. Team Magic races are sprint and olympic distance triathlons. Perhaps you are new to triathlon and eager to sign up for an Ironman. Coach Stephen Taylors pauses and asks for you to reconsider here.

His upcoming training groups:

Music City Triathlon July 26. Although this race has been held for 30 years, this will be the first year that it will be held in downtown Nashville. Be part of this historic event even if you haven't done a triathlon before. You can begin training with him for this race at the latest June 1, but the sooner you start the better. Race info here.

Women's Triathlon Training Group. This group meets Thursday mornings from 10am-noon. This is intended to be convenient for women who can't train before or after normal work hours. Don't worry if you are a female but can't make that time. There are plenty of co-ed sessions at other times.

He does individual coaching but the best value he offers is the Triathlon Training Group program. Each week has 6-8 sessions scheduled; if you register you can attend as many of these as you wish. Other advantages include that he is available for contact via phone and e-mail, and he provides written training plans to the group. Registration is 99/month.

The Music City Triathlon is making a big move to downtown Nashville and moving to mid-summer for its' 31st year. There were increasing struggles with residential development that impacted the safety and enjoyment of the bike course so we are excited to be teaming up with TDOT to provide a closed bike course in downtown Nashville.

The AMICA INSURANCE OLD HICKORY LAKE TRIATHLON has moved to June! It will now be held on Saturday, June 27th (this was previously the McMinnville City Tri weekend.) This race has SOLD OUT the last few years, so be sure to register soon to insure your entry spot.

The McMinnville City Triathlon is now in AUGUST on Saturday, August 29th. You can register NOW.

Just south of Birmingham

The Buster Britton Memorial Triathlon is a great test before the Old Hickory Lake Triathlon - these races are basically sisters with the same distance 400 yard open water swim in calm waters, almost the same bike distance at 13 miles for Buster and just shy of 13 for Old Hickory. Both runs total 3 miles, at Old Hickory we just split the run.

Oak Mountain State Park is a beautiful venue located just about 10 miles south of the city of Birmingham. Register by May 26th to enjoy the early entry fee! Visit the web site for complete details.

If so, we have one of our two NEW Indoor Triathlons remaining... We're taking the concept of triathlon and moving it indoors for an exciting new swim, bike and run event. The TN Indoor Triathlon Is Being Held Along With The 2009 Southeast Multisport Expo - featuring four time Olympian Sheila Taormina - Saturday, March 7th

Get ready for the return of the original Southeast Multisport Expo. USAT Southeast Region is partnering with the Tennessee Chapter of Team In Training and Nashville Triathlon Club to host the 2009 Southeast Multisport Expo. The event will be held at the newly renovated state-of-the-art Downtown YMCA at 1000 Church Street in Nashville from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday March 7, 2009. The event will feature a wide variety of multisport vendors and organizations as well as informative clinics and an exciting multisport fashion show showcasing the latest styles available from ACME Multisports, Splish and others.

The highlight of the Expo will be the appearance of Sheila Taormina, the only athlete to ever compete in the Olympics in three different sports. She competed in the Olympic Games in swimming in 1996, triathlon in 2000 and 2004, and modern pentathlon in 2008. She was also recently inducted into the inaugural class of USA Triathlon’s Hall of Fame. Sheila will deliver an entertaining and motivational presentation about pursuing your dreams and reaching your full potential.

Other educational presentations will include “Training with Power” by noted cycling coach Todd Nordmeyer and “Fueling for Endurance Racing” by nutritionist Mari-Etta Parrish and USAT coach Kathleen Johnston. Expo attendees can start the day early by participating in the YMCA Indoor Triathlon, a fun new event presented by Team Magic. There will also be a swim clinic following the indoor triathlon presented by swim experts Ashley Whitney and Bruce Gennari.

There will be exciting door prizes offered, plenty of swag and a free lunch provided by Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ for all attendees. The expo is free and open to anyone with an interest in learning more about a multisport lifestyle. Click HERE for the event schedule.

Happy Holidays from Team Magic! We are working hard on finalizing plans for the 2009 Team Magic racing season and for an upgraded online registration system, so, hang tight, we hope to have our calendar and online registration open before the end of 2008.

THE BIG MOVE...
While we have truly enjoyed some wonderful years in the City of Irondale and so appreciate their tremendous support, due to issues with venue space, we were sent searching for a new site to keep this wonderful tradition alive. We are so pleased to announce Team Magic is partnering with downtown Birmingham and the Birmingham International Center to bring you Powerman Alabama and a complete weekend of Magic City racing in and around historic Kelly Ingram Park - come join us for the Powerman AL long course duathlon, the short course duathlon now known as the "Magic City Duathlon," the PowerKids Duathlon, a 8k run or 2 mile run... plenty of options for a great weekend. Hello From Team Magic!

We are affiliated with several clubs in our two "home states" of Alabama and Tennessee. A few weeks ago, we sent you information on the Greater Nashville Athletic Club. Below is information on another great triathlon club that is actively involved not only in the Old Hickory Lake Triathlon but many other events and they host a very popular kids triathlon in Hendersonville. Congratulations on your recent athletic achievements – whether this season marked your first taste of competition or your fiftieth, we applaud your commitment to living a healthy lifestyle. Right now you’re probably planning your 2009 season…and wondering how you can make it better than ever.
